Introduction

Astaan Academy is proud to present this Impact Report on the growth and contribution of the Astaan Content Creators Network—a growing community of young Somali creatives who have been trained, connected, and supported through Astaan.

In a fast-changing digital world, content creation has become more than a hobby or trend. It is now a powerful tool for employment, entrepreneurship, storytelling, cultural expression, communication, and business growth.

Today, Astaan has trained more than 150 content creators and built an active network that continues to learn, collaborate, and grow together. This report highlights the impact of that work and demonstrates how Astaan is helping shape the future of Somalia's creative and digital economy.

The Network is not simply a list of people who completed a training course. It is an active community that gives creators a sense of belonging, direction, connection, and professional support. Our Core Areas of Impact

A. Training and Skills Development

Astaan Academy has trained more than 150 content creators through practical and industry-relevant learning experiences. Our training focuses on the real skills creators need in today's media environment, including:

  • Content planning
  • Storytelling
  • Smartphone videography
  • Social media strategy
  • Camera handling
  • Branding
  • Photography
  • Audience engagement
  • Video editing
  • Professional communication

Impact

This training has helped young creators move from interest to ability. Many participants have gained the confidence to create content professionally, improve their online presence, develop their personal brands, and begin offering creative services.

B. Knowledge Sharing

One of the strengths of the Astaan model is that learning does not stop after formal training. We have created spaces where creators can continue to exchange ideas, lessons from experience, creative techniques, platform trends, industry updates, and practical advice.

Impact

This approach has strengthened peer learning, encouraged collaboration, and helped build a culture of continuous improvement among young Somali creators.

C. Sharing Opportunities

A key challenge for many young creators is not only learning the skills but also accessing opportunities. Astaan helps bridge this gap by sharing relevant opportunities with network members, including:

  • Content assignments
  • Campaigns
  • Collaborations
  • Workshops
  • Freelance opportunities
  • Brand-related work
  • Media engagements
  • Visibility opportunities

Impact

By connecting creators to opportunities, Astaan helps turn training into practical experience and creativity into economic value.

D. Creative Meetings and Networking

Creative growth needs community. For this reason, Astaan has organised and encouraged creative meetings and networking engagements where network members can discuss ideas, review creative work, explore new trends, inspire one another, build professional relationships, connect with other creators and artists, and give and receive feedback.

Impact

Creative meetings have strengthened the network, built confidence, encouraged teamwork, and created new opportunities for collaboration and innovation.

E. Workshops

Astaan has also used workshops as a practical way to deepen learning and expose creators to focused themes and real-world challenges. Workshop topics may include:

  • Storytelling for impact
  • Professional editing workflows
  • Creating content for business
  • Content monetisation
  • Filming with limited resources
  • Branding and client work
  • Social media growth

Impact

Workshops provide creators with hands-on learning opportunities, refresh their skills, and help keep them aligned with professional standards and industry developments.

F. Creative Events and Community Engagement

Astaan recognises that creativity grows not only through formal training but also through experiences, interaction, artistic expression, and community engagement. The Astaan Content Creators Network supports and organises creative activities that bring together creators, artists, and young people in inspiring environments—creating opportunities for artistic expression, community building, networking, creative inspiration, collaboration, and sharing ideas and experiences.

Impact

Creative events strengthen the sense of community among young Somali creatives and provide spaces where talent, creativity, confidence, and professional relationships can grow.
